Energy minister promises his best

By Crispina Cummings

Newly approved minister of energy, Henry Macauley has promised his best to both the energy sector and the country as a whole.

The engineer and former diplomat who was approved last week told Politico that his first steps would be toward identifying the challenges and where they lay. He noted that it was important for all to come on-board because everyone had different talent.

Even though managing the sector and bringing it to standard was challenging, he said he was confident it could be done because “other countries started theirs years back and they are now enjoying the success today”.

He encouraged Sierra Leoneans, especially those working in the sector “to put all hands on deck for the good of all”.

Contributions on the approved nominees that stood before the Well on Thursday centred on the energy ministry, which, according to Jusufu Mansaray, MP, was being looked at as a failed project.

He encouraged the minister to prove himself and not to disappoint those who trusted him with the position as energy minister, saying: “I believe in the wealth of experience of the minister”. He however cautioned against “bad eggs within the sector who usually do things that degrade the sector like the recent fuel theft”.
