Martin Michael, on behalf of the Michael family, Monday 29th June 2015, made an additional donation to Educaid SL Charitable Foundation at their headquarters at 23 Sheriff Drive, Freetown.
In his presentation to the Country Director of Educaid SL, Martin Michael praised the foundation for what he described as a fantastic charitable work they are undertaking under such difficult times the country is going through.
“From what I am seeing here today, I have felt the height of a condition of how people go through sufferings, and will even opt to do more if situation permits my family to do so,” Martin assured.
The Managing Director of Mercury International, during a tour within the compound with four of the children beneficiaries of the Foundation, also praised the orphans for what he described as their efforts, attitude, comportment and willingness to learn.
Presenting the food items worth about 12 million Leones, Martin Michael enthusiastically stated that, the additional donation could be a surprise to the orphanage as he was only invited by the Country Director of Educaid to do an onsite visit as a follow up to the 5 million Leones monthly contribution they (Michael family) are contributing to them.
“The visitation is not only limited here, as there are three more orphanages to visit,” Mr Michael said. The food items included 50 bags of rice, 15 cartons of tinned sardines, 10 gallons of cooking oil and some provisions.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Foundation, Country Director Educaid SL Mariam Masson Sesay, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Michael family for what she described as wonderful gesture to the less privileged.
“We always look forward to such opportunities that will aid the children in their search for achieving their academic excellence,” she said.
Educaid, according to Mariam Masson Sesay, is an orphanage which serves as a spring board for less privileged children in society to achieve their potentials or their anticipated dreams.
“We have nine schools with a total of 2700 children comprising both boys and girls in the whole of the country with Freetown being our headquarters,” she said.
She also said that through their own educational system at the orphanage, they have produced students who have got university requirements, while some are doing further studies in countries like Venezuela, Morocco, to name a few.
Madam Sesay further promised to use both the food items and the monthly support from the Michael family for its intended purpose and also called on people with opportunities to copy the good example of the Michael family.
Jeminatu Morry, Head Girl of the school, on behalf of her colleagues at the Educaid Orphanage school, also expressed her gratitude to the Michael family, and also promised to live up to the expectation of their donors by committing themselves to whatever guide they are getting from the foundation.
“We are getting quality education from our teacher,” she said, adding: “ As some of us are now preparing for our WASSCE examination, therefore we need more support.”
Meanwhile, it could be recalled that, sometime in November 2014, Mrs. Basita Michael made a pledge to His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma of a donation of Le 240,000,000 by the Michael family to four orphanages providing care for orphans of Ebola victims.
After much deliberations and research, the Michael family was pleased to work with Cap Anamor Orphanage, Educaid SL, St. George’s Foundation and Heaven’s Home amongst others.
Each of these orphanages will receive a monthly contribution of Le 5 million Leones from the Michael family for a period of one year. The first payment was made on the 19th December 2014. The total contribution to each organization will be Le 60 million Leones for the one year period.
