The founder and former flag bearer of the fractious National Democratic Alliance, Alhaji Amadu Jalloh has backed Alhaji Musidal Jalloh as the party's flag bearer for November's elections. He was elected at a late night meeting on Sunday.
The telephone endorsement from the USA was made at a press conference in Freetown, following a rival declaration of leadership by Pateh Bah who said he was endorsed by the people who “unanimously” voted for him in Kenema.
Bah, who was expelled from the party last week, told journalists on Tuesday that he would take the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) party to court over his expulsion and other issues.
“I am the legally elected flag bearer of the party and not somebody that was elected overnight” he told newsmen. He said it was unconstitutional of the NDA party to expel him because he had committed no crime and emphasised that he had been elected by an “overwhelming majority” of the party members, adding that ”the NDA executive is behaving out of constitutionality.”
He said he has already written a letter of complaint to the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and it was only left for the commission to decide on its cause of action.
Bah further stated that even though he was not the first person to be expelled by the party, he was ready to put a stop to their “illegal expulsion of dedicated members”. He said the current flag bearer, Alhaji Musidal Jalloh, unlike himself, had been “secretly” appointed in the middle of the night upon their return from Kenema where he said he was publicly and democratically elected.
The National Secretary General of NDA, Mohamed S. Jalloh, said Pateh Bah, like everybody else, was free to go to court. He said Pateh was no longer a member of the party because he had been expelled for “indiscipline”.
