  • A pitch invasion during the match

By Mohamed Jaward Nyallay

Kamboi Eagles Football Club have protested the Emergency Committee’s decision to reschedule its home game against East End Lions to Freetown.

A decision which was announced on Tuesday by the Premier League Board, ordered both teams to play the remaining 12 minutes of their game behind closed doors in the capital.

On the 1st of February, the match between Kamboi Eagles and East End Lions was abruptly ended after pitch invasion which was caused by violence between the two sets of supporters.

Secretary General of the club, Mohamed Patteh Jabbie who wrote the letter on behalf of the club stated that , “ In as much as we are ready to play in the remaining of that match we are also aware of the universal rule which states among others that in circumstances of such especially when the security of our matches is the responsibility of the district FA and the league board, we would have thought that the emergency committee gives us first option as hosts to choose our next artificial home ground; if at all they had provided us with sufficient reasons or evidence to move the said match from its original venue ( Kenema City field).”

He added, “playing the remaining minutes in Freetown (the home of East End Lions FC), gives our opponent the advantage over us as original host club.”

East End Lions have not responded to the decision.

Eagles also complained about the expenses involved in playing behind close doors away from home.

The club said the punishment is not within the “Fair Play” spirit of the sport.

The committee did not just reschedule the game to Freetown. It also fined both clubs Le1 million each for the conduct of their fans.

Kamboi Eagles next home game has also been scheduled to be played in Bo as a punishment for the same incident. A decision which the club didn’t protest.
