The Nigerian government has donated 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles to Sierra Leone's National Electoral Commission (NEC), according to the NEC Western Area Commissioner, Miatta French.
She said the vehicles arrived last week and would be commissioned on Thursday.
French said the commission would need 400 vehicles to conduct November's elections, adding that the rest would have to be hired.
Head of Economic Desk and Technical Aide Corp at the Nigerian High Commission in Freetown, Abba Bello, told Politico that in response to the request made by NEC to the Nigerian government for assistance to facilitate a free, fair and credible electioneering process, the Nigerian Government has donated the vehicles and a sum of $ 1 million.
Mr. Bello also said that the Nigerian government would assist in the training of NEC’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) staff.
He confirmed that the presentation of the items would be take place on the 1 October, 2012.
