Sierra Rutile Limited is excited to announce its first annual golf tournament, the Sierra Rutile Golf Classic.
In a press release issued on 23 October 2012, the company said the tournament would be taking place throughout this week, to be followed by a reception at the Freetown Golf Club during which the winners would be announced.
“We’re very pleased to introduce the Sierra Rutile Golf Classic as one of our newest traditions,” said John Sisay, Sierra Rutile's CEO. “It’s a privilege for us to be associated with such a venerable institution as the Freetown Golf Club, and to help support and popularise the sport in Sierra Leone".
According to the statement, the tournament would be hosting amateurs and professionals alike, with prizes to be awarded in the categories of Best Gross Score, Mens' Best Nett Score (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Ladies' Best Nett Score (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Longest Drive - Men, Longest Drive - Ladies, and Nearest to the Pin.
Building on the success of this inaugural event, Sierra Rutile expressed hopes that the future to play host to Sierra Leone's golfing fraternity at the company's Mobimbi site - where they are re-opening their nine hole course, which had become badly overgrown – and to revive the tradition of hospitality and support for sporting prowess for which the company was renowned.
