SLFA THROWS ALUSINE AND FREEMAN UNDER THE BUS
We’ve been waiting for more than a week now to see how Bra Alusine and Bra Freeman will react to being thrown under the bus by the SLFA, an organization they work for. It’s either they are guilty as charged or are too scared to talk because the ruthless Queen will simply SACK them immediately. We want to tell them that that they have no choice but to speak up and either successfully clear their names or at least put out a counter narrative for the world to consider. Here’s why.
1. The SLFA Appeals Committee that named and shamed them did not give any reasons for their action. Out of several members of the secretariat involved in that chaotic nomination process only the two of them were singled out and thrown under the bus to die. Surely they should stand up and fight.
2. That document is now in archives all over the world and could be used at any time for different purposes. Unless there was a counter narrative people are bound to believe what they have in black and white right now.
3. For Bra Alusine and Bra Freeman to hope that the world will soon forget they were mentioned in such negative circumstances is a really bad dream. For as long as that document remains unchallenged, people will continue to make reference to it whenever the two names are mentioned having regard to integrity questions.
4. We want the two guys to know that whenever anybody’s integrity is attacked in this way, that person has zero choice but to fight back to redeem their name for themselves and their families. There is in fact no limit to such fight back. It should include the option to go to the High Court for defamation.
5. How much are people at the SLFA paid anyway? When it comes to clearing their name, we don’t think the two guys should even think of salaries or travel with the national team. We just want to let them know that this matter will not die.
SHOULD WE EXEMPT MP FROM THE COVID -19 TEST?
The only reason we are bringing this here is because it’s our job to alert the nation to things we consider very important because this should actually be one of those things we should easily dismiss as FALSE but we have it on good authority that our people at Tower Hill have asked to be excused from the mandatory COVID -19 testing taking place between Freetown and the rest of the country. We hope we will get a call from the hill to tell us this is wrong otherwise we ask the country to absolutely believe that our people want to skip the test that every other Sierra Leonean is going through right now. The big man on the hill says his people must follow the rules but why should they even think about being exempt or making the thing voluntary for themselves alone.
The last impression that our big men up the hill want to create is that they are special people over the rest of us who stood in queues to get them into that house. Already they enjoy a lot of privileges because of that office so to try and take some more so unjustifiably could cause serious disaffection towards them. This is a very serious matter.
PLEASE STOP THROWING RUBBISH ALONG FBC ROAD
Next time you drive up the road leading to Fourah Bay College keep your eyes to the left after you go pass the new car wash center and as you approach the mobile phone mast to your left, you will notice a growing mound of rubbish deposited in at least three areas by people in the community that lies about one hundred yards below the hill.
We are flagging this issue now because we want the authorities at FBC to stop this attitude. We know efforts were made in the past and for a while the dumping stopped. The FBC put signposts warning people to stop but now they are back.
The land belongs to the FBC but because the security structure of the college is not as present there as it is on the campus, people sneak in and dump rubbish. It’s becoming serious.
In fact, we want to call attention yet again to the inadequacy of waste disposal facilities in this city of Freetown. Most of those structures in places like that are illegal and the residents are continuously encroaching on FBC land and we don’t know where this will all end. Signposts will not solve this problem. If FBC can deploy guards there, let them do it.
HILLSIDE BY-PASS ROAD IS ALREADY AN EYESORE
We’ve been assured by people who should know that the Hillside By-pass road should be complete by the end of this year. The pace of the last mile area is such that we have reason to believe it will be no surprise if that vital link to the east of this city is open for business before Christmas 2021. As ordinary citizens, we want the best for this country so we wish those doing the road all the best. However, we want to call the attention of the authorities to the fact that the lower end of the road, leading to Dwarzark Junction is looking very poor. This very nice dual carriage way is beginning to look like a glorified Wilberforce Street.
We are calling attention to all the rotten vehicles abandoned in the parking area on both sides of the road. That space is provided so that drivers can drop off passengers or park their vehicles to attend to a quick business and leave. For more than a month now we’ve been counting all the rotten vehicles parked from the area just after Winners Chapel to Model School area. In fact people are now building ugly roadside structures to sell this and that. We have seen feeble attempts by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority to stop some of these constructions but we believe a big state institutions like that is being completely ignored by lawless people.
While all of this is happening the Mayor of the Sun is on social media telling the world of the MIRACLES she is performing in Freetown. We don’t know for sure but we believe her people are collecting market dues from the people selling in those illegal market stalls near Model School and Dwazark Junction. It’s very sad but things can only continue to go bad on that road.
THE WORLD IS DOING IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN MYANMAR
We really don’t see any reason why the UN body should be killing itself complaining about what is happening in Myanmar. We are talking about the toppling of the civilian administration there. Well, maybe we should allow a little space and agree that when democracy is threatened anywhere, it represents a threat everywhere. The truth about Myanmar is that the military has always had a direct role in the politics of the country. They are not like Pakistan where the military stays in the background until their interests are threatened. We are talking about a country where the military has a political party in the system. So UN condemnations are fine, backed by sanctions but with powerful neighbor, China not interested, surely the whole thing is just procedural.
Also, we were very disappointed with the way Aung San Suu Kyi handled the whole Rohingia crisis in that country. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingia were brutally attacked, killed or forced across the border into Bangladesh by the same military with Aung San Suu Kyi looking on in silence. The world that stood with her for TWENTY YEARS until she took power in that country urged her to use her political and moral clout to stop the killing and displacement of innocent people from their homes but she sat there possibly cheering on in the quietness of her room for God knows what.
So while we unequivocally support the fight against all anti-democratic forces, we certainly don’t trust Aung San Suu Kyi. All she wants is to be in power. She couldn’t care less if the Rohingia are disgraced and displaced or even killed.
