SLAJ and EU to clean up Lumley-Aberdeen Beach

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) in collaboration with the European Union (EU) in Sierra Leone and partners are set to embark on the annual EU Beach Clean-up event.

This year’s annual beach clean-up event will take place on Saturday 16th October, 2021 at the Lumley-Aberdeen Beach in Freetown.

A news release published by SLAJ on Thursday 14th October this year, noted protecting the environment and raising awareness for the protection of the ocean from plastic litter as the main drivers of depletion of marine biodiversity and climate change issues that require collective efforts.

The President of SLAJ, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla said that the media has a moral obligation to support worthy courses and that environmental protection is crucial.  “The media plays a crucial role in raising awareness about climate change issues, mobilising action, tracking policy implementation, and leading advocacy efforts towards the responsible treatment of the environment,” he said.

The media group therefore called on its members to volunteer by joining the National Executive for the cleaning exercise opposite the Atlantic Lumley Hotel on the aforementioned date. It also urged members to appear in their SLAJ Golden Jubilee T-shirt, cap, or the SLAJ visibility jacket.
