Diplomat and philanthropist, Adonis Aboud has donated £ 1,000, an unnamed individual has pledged £ 200 and Politico Newspaper has pledged £ 200 towards the medical bill of Fourah Bay College history lecturer, Lansana Kormoh. This means that he has now raised £ 10,900 of the £ 12,000 he needs for a hip replacement surgery.
To save his life he now needs a balance of £ 1,100 for his surgery and an additional £ 1,000 for physiotherapy.
Kormoh, on PhD scholarship in Bradford, has been critically ill for over a year and is in urgent need of the money to undergo a surgery. He had been scheduled to go under the knife in May but that time elapsed in part because he had not yet raised the full amount.
Under the terms of his scholarship Kormoh cannot be operated on as a beneficiary of Britain’s National Healthcare Service scheme. Nor can his employers, Fourah Bay College, give anything more than £ 1,000 which they have already contributed.
His situation is complicated, made worse by his sickle cell condition.
