Former East End Lions player, Didi Abu, and owner of Diaabu Soccer Academy in Virginia, United States of America has, in a telephone interview, told Politico Sports that he wants to give back to his country.
He said he would be coming up with a football festival in early December 2013 for young footballers between U-12 to U-17 categories as a way to support youth football in the country.
“I want to make these boys part of my academy when the need arises someday,” he promised.
He said the winner of the tournament would receive standard football items, including learning materials to help in their educational pursuit.
“Nobody has influenced me to do this. I love my country and I will always give back to my country when the need arises,” he said, adding that the initiative would be replicated across the country.
He went on to say that a good national team would always rely on the youth and if they had proper youth system the national team would be expected to do well in any competition, citing countries like Ghana, Nigerian and Ivory Coast typical examples.
