72 hours to save Mighty Blackpool

By Chernor Alimamy Kamara

Current members that form the Management of Mighty Blakpool Football Club, led by seasoned administrator Rodney Michael have threatened to resign unless the former shareholders relinquish their interests in the club so that interested persons can buy shares thereby investing in the famous club.

Politico understands that fans and players of Blackpool are facing some anxious moments as they wait to see what happens to the club in the next 72 hours – the time frame given by Michael and the other members for the others to leave.

The current management now wants to convert any further investment in the club into shares. And according to our sources, both sides recently agreed to meet to discuss the issue but the former owners have consistently postponed the meeting.

Michael’s team has now set a deadline of Wednesday 20th December, 2023 for the issue to be sorted out otherwise they would resign and hand the club over to the fans.

Blackpool football club, one of the consistent performers has been stuck in the middle of the league table this season with results that leave much to be desired. Unofficial sources have told Politico that it takes about NLe 120,000 to run the club each month, covering wages, match-winning bonuses, and other miscellaneous payments. The sources say if the issues are not resolved by Wednesday Blackpool may be unable to honour their fixtures in the ongoing league after a few weeks.

When reached, Michael refused to be drawn on the issue, and could only say that “management is doing the best for Mighty Blackpool”.

One of the members of the old management of Blackpool, James Fofanah told Politico that if Michael and his team want to resign they can do so and cautioned them to stop castigating people. He noted that the old management served the team for over 15 years and had wanted to privatize the team, but that the present management said the club was not meant for privatization, saying it is a supporters’ club.

He said if the new management thinks they have shareholders; let them bring them on board instead of telling people to move away from the club. He stated that there were people who spent their monies on the club whom the new management upon assuming office insulted and kicked out of the club.
