ACC suspect nabbed in Gambia

  • Joseph Kamara

The International Police (INTERPOL) in The Gambia have arrested a suspect the Anti-Corruption Commissioner has described as “very key and pivotal” in the case involving 17 workers at the National Revenue Authority and ECOBANK. Joseph Kamara told Politico that Elizabeth King aka Betty King on whom an INTERPOL red alert in June was arrested after she was spotted in The Gambia. He said Gambian police arrested her and handed her over to the Sierra Leone High Commission in Banjul. Describing Miss King as the “mastermind” behind the alleged issuing into various private accounts the NRA cheques that had been issued by the agribusiness company, ADDAX, the ACC boss said she was under “ACC custody”. He would not be drawn into whether that meant police custody. Kamara said that a separate case would have to be opened as the trial of the 17 others was far advanced. King was one of four people on whom a red alert notice was issued early this year. She is the only one known to have been arrested so far. (C) Politico 22/10/13
