After re-election…Boxers frown at Christian Campbell

Some members of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) have frowned at the re-election of the Association's Secretary General, Christian Campbell for the next four years. Boxer Mohamed Musa who spoke to this press expressed disappointment that Campbell was re-elected.

Musa accused Campbell of contributing to the downfall of the sport. He said Campbell ‘’normally takes boxers who are not members of their association to represent the country in international competitions which sometimes results in failure’’.

He said "Boxers are suffering in this country because most times we don't get any standard equipment for training to prepare ourselves for international competitions".

He urged the new executive to make the welfare of boxers, a priority.

Responding, Christian Campbell said: ‘’I never compromised my principles...all matters regarding the welfare of the membership are normally handled at executive level not a one-man man show".

Campbell said the association was faced with financial problems and most trips were cancelled due to non-availability of funds from the ministry of sport and business houses. ‘’I hope that this new executive will find ways and means to secure sponsorship for us when it comes to international competitions’’ he said.
