Members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) over the weekend embarked on cleaning the Kenema Government Hospital, assisted by youth groups, the Fire Force, and the Bike Riders Union.

According to the Commander Second Infantry Brigade in Kenema, Colonel Alimamy Osman Kamara, they decided to undertake such a venture as part of the civil-military cooperation to help clean and beautify the central government hospital.

He noted that the RSLAF is also mandated to give back to the country when needed which prompted him upon taking charge as commander to look at several areas which needed cleaning- the hospital certainly is one such place.

Colonel Kamara reiterated that the RSLAF has a positive collaboration with the hospital management and that ‘’RSLAF is a transformative army that will always link with the community for national development’’.

He emphasized that as of recently, five military personnel have benefited from minor surgeries which contributed to strengthening their collaboration with the hospital management.

He said the cleaning will now be on a monthly basis involving civil groups to aid the soldiers with the cleaning and to respond to any serious environmental problems.

The Brigade Commander pointed out that as a trained and reformed military, they now focus on global security by moving from gun-taking to looking at environmental, economic, food, social, and health security.

He called on the people of Kenema City to come together to make the environment clean and safe and maintain the peace, so as to boost the economy of the country.

On behalf of the hospital management, the Medical Superintendent of Kenema Government Hospital, Dr. Abdulai Tejan Jalloh expressed gratitude to the leadership of RSLAF for the intervention.

“We appreciate RSLAF as our own army,’’ he said.

He stated that though the hospital has a team for cleaning, the move by the military was a laudable one.

Dr. Jalloh assured of the hospital’s continued service to the people of Kenema.
