The Western Area Inter- Club Basketball Competition has reached its crucial stage or rather the best of three (3) with Canon Royals having engaged YSC in one of the final stages yesterday Wednesday 4th June 2014 at the National Stadium basketball court in Freetown. It ended -----,----- .
The competition will continue on Friday 6th June 2014 and two straight wins for any of the teams will see them crowned this year's champions. Earlier in the knock-out stages, YSC defeated last season’s champions, YMCA in two straight matches, while Canon Royals progressed to the final also after two straight victories against Freetown Lakers.
Some of the fans who spoke to Politico described this year's competition as one of the best ever despite the lack of basic facilities to develop players for international competitions. They praised the spirit manifested by the players throughout the entire competition. When asked about their thoughts on the two teams in the finals they said they "are really hoping to see a fantastic final between Canon Royals and YSC adding that both teams are equally matched so it is very difficult for us to determine (eventual winners) but who so ever wins deserves it". They pleaded with the association to organize similar competitions across the country to allow other players to showcase their talents.
