Chairman of the Western District Synod of Buxton Memorial Methodist Church on Charles Street says “the nation is in stagnation because our thoughts are totally evil and there is no fear of the Lord in our leaders”.
Reverend Arnold Archer-Campbell, who preached on the theme “Serve the Lord with fear” at the 104th anniversary of Men Stewards Union of the church over the weekend, wondered “how can a nation have a vice president that cannot represent his president or the country.”
He added that people kept manipulating things without the fear of the Lord who sees all things.
“How can we move forward [as a nation] when the two people that are leading us [President Ernest Bai Koroma and Vice President Samuel Sam Sumana] do not sit together to discuss the progress of the nation, and do not see eye-to-eye”, the preacher lamented.
These things, he said, had spiritual undertone and as a nation, adding that we all needed to pray “for peace and unity among our leaders”.
Reverend Archer-Campbell further warned that “no man should feel he is too powerful or rich to be advised. True Christians listen to wise counsel which makes them different from the rest of the world”.
He went on: “What brings growth [in a country] is continuous support towards the works of God”, noting that younger people do not opt for the service of God in the Methodist Church because of how reverends were being treated.
He added that “it only takes the grace of God to make us what we are” and called on Christians “to stand firm in holiness with the fear of the Lord”, adding “there is a way that seemeth right unto a man but leads him to destruction”.
In the area of giving, the preacher admonished Christians not to think twice about taking care of their leaders “as the anointing flows when the pastor or reverend has less to worry about, backed by a good spiritual relationship with the Lord”.
