The Lead lawyer for Dr. Samura Kamara in the ongoing New York Chancery case at the High Court in Freetown has asked the court to recall two prosecution witnesses on Wednesday 5th April 2023 saying he had some issues to clarify with them. Lawyer Frank Kargbo made the request when the trial resumed on Monday 3rd April, almost two weeks after the court first inspected the chancery building at the center of this trial in New York.
Trial Judge Adrian Fisher asked the lawyer to make an application in court for his request to be considered when the trial resumes.
Earlier in the day, Alpha Sahid Ankaanu, Senior Registrar of the High Court presented a report on what transpired at the chancery building in New York.
Lawyers for both the 1st and 2nd accused persons requested the full video of all that transpired at the hearing that took place in New York because, according to them, the presentation made by the Registrar did not capture everything that happened during the process. The judge agreed and ordered that the Registrar presents the full video on Wednesday.
During the proceedings on Monday Judge Fisher questioned lawyers for the 4th accused person, Dr. Samura Kamara as to why their client was absent at the inspection of the chancery building in New York.
Dr. Samura Kamara told the court that he was not physically present but he was represented by his lawyers because they told him it was optional for him to attend or not. Justice Fisher described that statement as “misleading”. He could now take that to be a contemptuous act for Dr. Samura Kamara to have deliberately opted not to attend the hearing in New York. He warned Dr. Kamara to always cooperate with the court as he had been doing since the trial opened.
