Child Rights Coalition Sierra Leone (CRCSL) has launched a report on the status of implementation of recommendations on advancing children’s rights that will grant children the right to hold the government of the day accountable
The National Chairperson of CRCSL, Jenneh Jalloh told a Conference organized by the coalition at CCSL Hall in Freetown last week that, ratification will strengthen the fulfillment of children’s right, giving them the legal empowerment to take legal action on child-friendly rules if they feel their rights were being trampled upon.
She noted that their aim is to draw the government’s attention to heighten responses in preventing and mitigating issues related to children such as female genital mutilation by working with former practitioners or Soweis to fully understand the process in other to combat it, child trafficking, child marriage and labour, and right to health care.
She also spoke about collaboration with NGOs partners, district councils and council of paramount chiefs to build capacity for families and community based care, ensuring that children with disabilities have access to inclusive early childhood care, education, and early development programmes health care, and get technical and financial support.
She further said that CRCSL is working with partners to ensure that all victims receive psychosocial, medical support and access to post rape health. They are also recommending that the State provides adequate and child sensitive medical counselling and legal services for child victims and witnesses especially cases that require urgent medical treatment.
Jalloh established that the aim of CRCSL is child safety and wellbeing and meaningful participation in decision- making.
Deputy Commissioner at National Commission for Children, Fabundeh Ansumana said that young people have the responsibility to abstain from the use of drugs which he said is a threat to human security. He commended the report done by CRCSL which he described as a big effort.
