Fines have been imposed on eight clubs in the Sierra Leone Premier League after being found guilty of professional misconduct by the Premier League Disciplinary and Protest Committee. Some club officials were also found culpable of similar offences and faced fine or match suspension.
Bai Bureh Warriors, East End Lions, Old Edwardians, Bo Rangers, Wusum Stars, Central Parade, FC Kallon and FC Johansen are the clubs affected.
Bai Bureh Warriors were fined NLE 5,000 (five thousand New Leones) for violent misconduct and unsporting behavior after their fans threw stones at an Assistant Referee in their home match against FC Kallon on the 10th December, 2022.
NLE 3,000 (three thousand New Leones) fine was also levied on the club for an altercation between their official and the Assistant Referee 2, Donald Conteh in their match against Luawa FC in Lungi on the 18th December, 2022. The official reportedly rained motherly invectives on Conteh.
Also the Chairman of the Club, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara has been banned from the technical area for four matches involving Bai Bureh Warriors with immediate effect and to pay a fine of NLe2,000 (two thousand New Leones) for threatening the referee .
The committee also fined East End Lions NLE 3,000 (three thousand New Leones for allowing their supporters to attack the match officials and used abusive, insane and insulting languages against them, while throwing missiles in their match against FC Johansen, on the 8th January, 2023. The incident which warranted the fine came in the 13th minute of play when the Referee produced a red card against two players from Johansen and Lions for violent conduct.
The Protest Committee further fined Old Edwardians Football Club NLe.3, 000 (three thousand New Leones) for failing to control their supporters and some technical team members. The supporters and technical team members attacked the Central Referee, Mohamed B. Koroma, and his Assistant 1, Foday Kallon in their match against Luawa FC on the 9th January, 2023, and used abusive language against them.
The Assistant Coach 2, Momoh Dumbuya was also seen threatening the Referee and was fined NLe2, 000 (two thousand New Leones).
Bo Rangers were also fined NLE (three thousand New Leones) for allowing their fans to celebrate and overwhelm the security personnel in their match against East End Lions on the 27th January, 2023.
Wusum Stars FC are to pay NLe 5,000 (five thousand New Leones for failing to control their officials and Mohamed Papa Bangura was given an immediate ban from the technical area for two matches and fined NLe2, 000 (two thousand New Leones) for using motherly invectives against the match official.
FC Johansen and FC Kallon were fined NLE 3,000 (three thousand New Leones) each for failing to control their officials.
An Official from FC Johansen, Junior Lawson was fined NLe1,000 (one thousand New Leones) for using an abusive language in the field of play against the Reserve Referee, Mohamed B. Koroma in their match against FC Kallon on the 23rd December, 2022.
In the same hearing, three points and three goals were deducted from Central Parade and awarded to East End Lions for abandoning of a match.
The committee concluded that failure to comply with these measures will warrant further actions against defaulters.
