President Julius Maada Bio last week commissioned two Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Health Facilities (BEONCHF) in Falaba district.
One of the hospitals was erected in Falaba town, whilst the other is at Masanda. Five new fully equipped ambulances were also made available for the hospitals.
The President whilst addressing the people explained that for a while now women and children have been losing their lives due to lack of proper and quality health care facility.
Speaking on what inspired the construction of the hospital, Bio said: "In January 2020, when I graced the turning-of-the-sod ceremony for the construction of these two Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Health Facilities, I was driven by a strong conviction that the people of Falaba District deserve better healthcare service delivery”.
He stated that basic health care facility is essential, and that as a district it is vital for them to have a hospital where women can give birth without having to travel elsewhere, or being worried and scared of losing their life in the process of doing so. There is presently a mobile clinic that goes into communities to treat people.
"My conviction was shaped by the unfortunate occurrence that the people of Falaba were traveling from Falaba to Kalaba Town for Gynaecology and Obstetrics Care Services," said President Bio.
Paramount Chief Salifu Roman Samura III of Solima Chiefdom expressed delight for the new facilities that were commissioned in his district. He heaped praises on the President and thanked him on behalf of the people of Falaba district.
The government has undertaken an extensive reform of the health sector that has resulted in the building of more health facilities and the upgrade and expansion of existing ones across the country.
