Germany to work with parliament

By Crispina Cummings

German Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Christian Rumplcker, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the new speaker, Sheku Bashiru Badamasi Dumbuya, and expressed his country's desire to work with the Sierra Leone parliament.

He said his government wanted to work closely with the office of the Speaker to create and sustain economic and other bilateral relationships with the government and people of Sierra Leone.

Key among possible areas of intervention was the Sierra Leone government’s "Agenda for Prosperity", he said, adding that they would welcome the idea of the speaker and the clerk of the house visiting Germany.

Speaker Dumbuya expressed appreciation of the visit by the Germans and assured that Sierra Leone would continue to work with the European nation "in moving and shaping many developments" for the country.

He asked that the capacity challenges of parliament be particularly addressed through the strengthening of their oversight functions.

Majority Leader, Ibrahim Bundu, MP, welcomed the visit of the ambassador and appealed for follow-up visits so that both countries could strengthen their bilateral relationship.
