By Prince J Musa in Kenema
As a result of the non-functioning of the digital clock installed by Africell at the Clock Tower, the Mayor of Kenema, Thomas Karim Baio has provided a new Analog Clock for the municipality.
Mayor Baio unveiled the device on the 3rd of October, 2023, to mark his first 100 days in office.
Addressing the gathering at the Kenema Clock Tower precincts, Mayor Baio noted that the old clock was replaced as a result of it not serving the people for its intended purpose.
He said that he had promised the people of Kenema before the General Elections that if elected, he would buy a new clock that could serve the people for a long period.
He stated that before replacing the old clock, Council gave the cost to Africell for the analog clock but they failed to honor the bill, so he had to go to the industry in London and purchase it from his own coffers.
He said the new clock would have been fitted long before now but was constrained in getting the engineer to do the work.
The Mayor affirmed that the new clock came with solar panels and other necessary materials to serve its function well without the need for electricity power.
He commended the new National Revenue Authority (NRA) boss, Ibrahim Brima Swarray who supported the clearing of the clock at the Ports and assured the public that it would last for a long time.
On behalf of the administration of the city council, the Chief Administrator, Joseph Gando thanked the Mayor for fulfilling his promise to the people. He stated that the word of the mayor for the sustainability of the clock is one big assurance he has given to the people and encouraged everyone in Kenema city to embrace development so that the district will be classed as one of the finest cities in the country. He assured of the council’s support to protect and maintain the clock so it can serve the people.
