Chief Executive Officer, Lake Production, has told newsmen that his entertainment company would be awarding Sierra Leonean musicians for outstanding contributions to the music industry on April 27, Independence Day.
Alhaji Kelfala Tarawally, akaLaj K, revealed this at a press conference held yesterday at Stadium Hostel in Freetown. He said the award ceremony would also serve as “stimuli to discourage our music stars and their fan bases from violent and riotous conducts”.
He said the industry was yet to make international mark because “there was no registered entertainment company to move it towards that direction”.
He said his Lake Production was the only registered entertainment company in the country and therefore issues of professionalism would be a primary concern to them.
Minister of youth affairs, Alimamy Koroma, said he was impressed with Lake Production for introducing a business model in the entertainment industry, noting that “the industry is the second biggest employer of youth after government”.
He promised that his ministry would employ somebody to serve as a coordinator between the ministry and the music industry.
The minister described the rivalry between musicians “as a hindrance to the industry’s development”, and called on all artists to be united for the progress and benefit of the profession.
