Le 500 Mln for Africell subscribers

By Bampia James Bundu

Telecoms operator Africell is set to give away a whooping sum of Le 500 million to subscribers taking part in the “Play and Win” promotion.

At the launch in Freetown, chief corporate affairs officer of Africell, Joe Abass Bangura, explained that the “Play and Win” campaign would allow subscribers to win cash prizes on a daily basis.

“To qualify, subscribers must send a blank SMS to or call 777 for just 10 units and a 10 on-net unit will be awarded to subscribers, which should be utilised before midnight of the same day”, Bangura explained.

He said 16 qualifiers would be chosen electronically on a daily basis, eight of whom would be invited to the studio to participate in the show, while the other eight would be paired up by phone with the studio participants.

During the show, he said, there would be several football games to be played live on SLBC TV and radio, adding that prizes to be won for each game would vary according to the complexity of the targets to be accomplished with regulated duration.

He said the final stage would be to search for the golden ball “where the qualifiers will have to locate among 30 footballs, the one containing the golden coin to win the star prize of Le 5 million”.

He explained that all prizes would be shared equally between the studio and phone participants, adding that where participants failed to win any prize on the show, they would be given consolation prizes.

The promotion, which started on 12 June, is set to end on 13 July and daily shows will run from 10:15pm to 11:15pm daily. He encouraged subscribers across the country to continue sending SMSes or calling 777 to qualify for the promotion.

“The more messages you send or the more you call, the more chances you get to win the star prizes”, he said.
