The Winner of 2012 Gretchen Walsh book donation award, Sierra Leonean born Dr. Fodei Batty has donated books to the Law School Library. The Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Quinnipiac University, Connecticut, USA said that the books were donated by the Africana Librarians Council of the African Studies Association in USA. It is the second time the country has benefitted from the award. The interim director of the Law School, Prof. Fredrick Tubuku-Metzger said that he was grateful and happy for the donation and thanked the donors for showing continued interest in the Law School. He said the Law School now had over 100 students as opposed to around two dozen students when it started. He said they would continue to look forward to receiving such gestures, adding that books in the library were insufficient and therefore could not give the books to the students to take home. The Registrar of the Law School, Ransford Lube-Metzger explained that the School was established in 1981 and had since depended more on donations and would accept soft or hard copies of materials in the school. Meanwhile, some departments of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Institute for Public Administration and Management and Fourah Bay College also benefited from the donation. In a similar development, a Conservative lawyer from Britain, Richard Honey, who is part of a delegation from the UK doing some training with the law officers department, also donated books to the Law School. He said the books were collected by members of the Bar Association of England and Wales, adding that they would apply to the International Law Facility for some books for the Law School. He noted that they would continue to work with the School. (C) Politico 24/09/13
