Member of Parliament of Constituency 85 has made an impassioned appeal for the rehabilitation of the main highway leading to her constituency, asking that it be considered as of the many road projects set aside for maintenance.
Veronica Kadie Sasay said she inherited terrible roads but they had gone worse, adding that “before the war Shengeh had a free port and served as the main fish basket for the whole country and where salt was also produced”.
The MP said that her constituency had one of the most popular tourist attractions and was a place people could stay and have all fresh and natural foods. She said they were losing out on all of those attractions because of the terrible road conditions.
“Over six months now no vehicle has plied that route,” she claimed, adding that the area was also prone to flooding citing an incident in 2009 when over 200 people, including school children, lost their lives travelling by boat to Shenge.
She recalled that in January a pregnant woman lost her life because she could not make it to the hospital because there was no motor way.
