Nigeria and Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi is set to miss out on the double header against Sierra Leone in November this year. Ndidi has been ruled out for operation on his adductor injury.
The 23-year old will be out for 12 weeks, according to Leicester City. This means he will be midway through recovery when Sierra Leone faces Nigeria on the 11th and 17th of November in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Ndidi has been a key figure in the Super Eagles side in the last few years, but his absence is not expected to cause any significant damage for the Eagles’ chances against Sierra Leone, because of the pool of talent that he could be replaced with.
Ndidi has been filling in this season as a center back for his club prior to his injury, replacing the injured Johnny Evans. Leicester Manager, Brendan Rogers was quoted by the BBC saying that he will be a big miss for the club and that they hope to receive him soon.
"It's just unfortunate - it's come right off the bone," said boss Brendan Rodgers. "He's a huge player for us."
He added: "I'm sure he'll make a really good recovery and we'll welcome him back when he comes back, but there's no doubt he's a miss."
Nigeria are top of group L after recording wins in their first two games against Benin and Lesotho. Benin is second after a win against Sierra Leone.
The top two from the group at the end of the qualifiers will book a place for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
