"No Cricket Players affected by Ebola"... Francis Samura

The Chief Executive Officer of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA), Francis Trevor Samura, has disclosed to this press that none of their players were directly affected by the Ebola outbreak during the Ebola crisis in the country.

This is "very positive despite the fact that we've been struggling to implement our activities during the course of the Ebola crisis. We were unable to prepare our players for tournaments," he said.

Samura pointed out that during the last one year, Cricketers encountered problems taking part in international competitions, citing denial of visas as example.

"We were denied visas by the Zambian government lees than twenty hours before departure after all the preparation...it was very unfortunate for the players who trained effectively for the competitions," he said.
Samura said the SLCA could now boast of equipment for cricketers to improve on their skills and be ready for international competitions.

"We have a big project to construct a playing field and when completed it will be the foremost cricket facility in West Africa,” he revealed.
The CEO said the national senior female cricket team was training hard for the Gambia Cricket Competition Schedule for October 2015.

A few years back Sierra Leone and Uganda took part in the African World Cup qualifying tournament in Kampala but failed to perform well. At that time the two countries were the only ones with female teams but now countries in the north and west of Africa are playing female cricket as well.
