Police "abandon" accident Victim

By Septimus Senessie in Kono

The elder brother of two accident victims in Kono has accused the police of "showing no interest" in the welfare of his siblings after they were reportedly hit two weeks ago by a police vehicle (SLP 269) belonging to Tankoro Police Division, leaving the two men aged 32 and 19 years with a broken leg and head injuries respectively.

Mohamed Turay told Politico that "it was only on 28th February  this year that the Local Unit Commander, Police Superintendent Momoh N’gevao of Tankoro Police Division came to us with Le 500,000 to take care of my brothers". He described the money as "a provocation to us," claiming that the police "abandoned my brothers helpless on the street after harming them and they also failed to visit them at the hospital until they were discharged and sent to traditional healers".

Aiah Komba commonly known as Akon, who conveyed the victims to hospital told Politico that it was a police vehicle that hit the men and sped off.

Meanwhile LUC Ngevao has denied his officers hit the men and suggested that it was the motorcycle rider who rammed into the police vehicle.

Ngevao said it could have happened as a result of the violent activities that some young people were engaged in on the night of the incident and refused to be drawn on the allegation that he gave the brother of the victims Le 500,000 as compensation.

Sorie Turay and Sullay Baryoh were riding home from  Konomanyi Lorry Park at around 10 pm when the incident occurred.
