Police crackdown on lawlessness

By Mohamed Vandi in Pujehun

Police Local Unit Commander in Pujehun has promised to make up for what he said were serious security lapses in the whole of Pujehun district, southern Sierra Leone.

Superintendent Nathaniel Brewah said that “there are high cases of lawlessness in the district, especially among bike riders” adding that “most motor bikes are unregistered and the riders are without licenses. Besides, the use of helmet is not common”.

Brewah said that he had observed that people did not seek security clearance when they undertook social activities, but that they only wanted the police to intervene when there was problem.

He said that he was going to institute law and order in Pujehun to ensure that peace and tranquility prevailed in the district.

“I have started holding meetings with the bike riders’ association to warn them before I go into action,” he said, adding that he would also do similar engagement with other stakeholders in the community.

The local police boss said that the entire Pujehun district was peaceful with no security threats at the moment but that his personnel were always ready to carry out correct orders where possible.

Brewah refuted allegations that frequent police presence in the Sahr Malen Chiefdom was to intimidate the people. He said their mandate was to protect life and property in the country and their presence within the operational area of Socfin Agricultural Company was to carry out the same protective mandate.
