A magistrate in Pujehun has ordered one Amadu Sesay to stand trial at the High Court in the southern city of Bo for the alleged sexual penetration of a minor, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2012.
Sesay is the Liaison Officer for the iron ore miner, China Kingho Investments in the Kpaka and Galliness Perri chiefdoms.
Magistrate Alford Fidawi granted Sesay bail in the sum of Le 20 million. He said the prosecution was able to adduce enough evidence, including the medical report, to prove that Sesay had a case to answer.
The alleged victim and a police officer attached to the Family Support Unit of the Pujehun police station testified for the prosecution.
An air of triumphalism from his family and friends greeted Sesay's release from remand. He later rode his official motorbike through the principal streets of the town.
The victim's family expressed "disgust at such a lack of remorse", on the part of the accused. Her cousin told Politico "we are now waiting for justice to be done in the High Court".
