The new president of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) says it was now time to “vehemently condemn all those sports journalists who failed to exhibit professionalism throughout the just-concluded SLFA elections. Sahr Morris in his augural statement at the SLAJ headquarters in Freetown said “it is a shame to see sports journalists put on candidates’ T-shirt and all those who were involved in such should bow their heads in shame”. Sahr Morris Jr. warned: “there will be no room for unprofessional behavior; the more reason my administration will introduce the Code of Professional Conduct in line with the AIPS Code of Baku, April 28, 2014”.
Formally taking over from Frank Magnus Cole, at SLAJ headquarters in Freetown, President Morris praised the peaceful nature of the election that brought him to office and urged his opponent Mohamed Konneh to work with him as this was the time for “Rebranding and Positioning” SWASAL and said “in our quest to reach the finish line, we will knock on the doors of media owners for the welfare of our members, private sector for sponsorship, and support, sporting bodies and disciplines for specialized capacity building and opportunities like reporting cricket, veterans and experienced SWASAL members for them to return and provide mentorship”.
Morris called on the regional bodies of SAWSAL to work as one in line with his idea of rebranding the organization and thanked all their sponsors and patrons for supporting them all these years.
The former president Frank Cole urged SWASAL members to be loyal to the organization and work with his successor even in times of difficulties.
In the elective congress two weeks ago, Morris won the presidency by 74 votes; Konneh got 29.
