The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) has apologized to the Government of Sierra Leone for what it described as inappropriate behavior of players who traveled to Rwanda for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa B Qualifier.
In a press statement dated 12th December, it took great exception to the content of the video that went viral showing players arriving at the Freetown International Airport,Lungi over the weekend, complaining of being stranded and with no funding from the Ministry of Sports.
The players were seen bitterly expressing their dissatisfaction, with the government and the sports ministry after they were requested to pay 25 dollars to airport management before they pass through.
“Government has ever been reliable partner and the biggest financier of sports development and has done well in that direction over the years,” the cricket association statement reads, adding that the body has been enjoying a very “good relationship” with government and any move to dampen such gains will be deemed unreasonable.
The association has promised to investigate the matter and punish all those who instigated the act.
