The Sierra Leone Football Association has announced on Wednesday that football world governing body, FIFA has approved the judicial bodies that were set up during the Kenema congress.
In a statement from the FA on Wednesday, they quoted FIFA’s Chief Member Association Officer, Veron Mosengo-Omba saying, “We agree that these new organs are now the ones that have the competence to investigate such matters at local level.”
The FA also announced Drucil Taylor as the new head of the “newly elected” Ethics Committee. This means, Taylor will lead the investigation.
Despite the announcement by the FA, it is not clear yet whether the work of any of the committees will be recognized by all the members of the SLFA.
In the aftermath of the Kenema congress where the judicial bodies were formed, there has been some serious controversy over the processes used in selecting the members of the committees.
Almost two weeks ago, some members of the association rejected the outcome of the congress calling on FIFA to nullify its purported outcome.
The judicial bodies will now be responsible to investigate the long drawn out match fixing allegations on some fifteen individuals which started in 2014.
Politico contacted some of the affected members of the investigation. They said they will not comment until they see Mosengo-Omba’s letter firsthand.
But with elective congress looming there is no timeline yet on how long more the investigation may last. This sets up a possible situation to disenfranchise some members ahead of the April election.
Politico contacted the FA on how much longer the investigation will last.
Head of Media at the SLFA, Ibrahim Kamara responded saying, “that’s for the respective bodies to decide.”
