Sierra Leone Premier League in Focus: Week nine

  • East End Lions, league leaders

Kallon fight to keep up

After two wretched performances, this was the game FC Kallon knew they had to win. And they won it. FC Kallon played with some conviction. Fresh from that heartbreaking draw against Lions, Ports couldn’t have wished for anything more difficult than facing FC Kallon.

Five more games to go, this is the home stretch now. If FC Kallon are going to win this league they must brace up. Among those five games, they have Blackpool, Kamboi Eagles and East End Lions all lined up.

There is no margin for error now.

This Ports team has a sprinkle of quality in it. But this season, they all know the club has no direction. They are even struggling to establish their formation.

Result

Ports Authority 1-2 FC Kallon

Lions keep grinding out results

Two games in the same week and they had to grind out the result again. They have not been perfect, but they have been winning. Lions are showing a champion character. They are refusing to lose.

You have a feeling that this league is theirs to lose.

East End Tigers gave a good account of themselves. But accounting is not good enough for them. With more than 70% of the league played, they should be worried about their form.

They have 21 points, just two points above the relegation zone.

Tigers should buckle up because when once they get sucked into that relegation hole, things could get messy down there.

Lions are top of the table after 19 games. They are still unbeaten, and they lead FC Kallon by a point.

It is no secret that the title decider will be the game between the top two.

Tigers who were just out of the top three waiting by the start of the second half of this league, they are now 9th in the table. They continue to slip down.

Result

East End Tigers 1-2 East End Lions

  1. in Kono

This is one of those games. Edwards know they have to stop the bleeding. Last time out they had a brilliant result against Blackpool. Going to Kono they would have expected a thrashing. Kono is a difficult place to go and come with something.

Edwards should really take this as a bonus.

Diamond Stars will be disappointed. On paper, this was a winnable game. This draw comes at the back of a brilliant 2-2 result they got against FC Kallon in Freetown.

Nothing changes, Edwards are still 10th on the table. But Diamond Stars are 7th and they just missed their chance to take over Ports Authority in 6th.

Result

Diamond Stars 1-1 Old Edwardians
