Sierra Leone Premier League Review: Eagles losing momentum?

  • East End Lions, defending champions

By MOhamed Jaward Nyallay

The Kamboi Eagles bubble have been busted, not once but twice in two weeks. At first, they went seven games without conceding any goal.

Then on match day eight, they conceded in the 4th minute against FC Johansen and it ended up being the winning goal for their opponents.

They had a chance at redemption against East End Tigers, but then they blew that chance again by losing 1-0.

So, in two weeks, a team that has won every one of its home games have now lost at home and have now lost two games in a row.

They are still the league leaders with 19 points and a game less. But the consequence of that defeat might be the coach’s job. Fans and the management are calling for his head.

Perhaps a sign of how badly the club wants to win the title.

For Tigers, this was an incredible result. They just keep getting better with their coach, Victoria Conteh.

Parade squander chance to win

Central Parade continue to be at the rock bottom of the table after they blew away a one goal lead in the last ten minutes of the game.

Bo Rangers were poor on the night, we have seen better performances from this team. Partly this was due to Parade’s pressing game.

Parade took the lead in the first half through a penalty. They had at least three clear cut chances to kill off the game, but they didn’t. and that came back to haunt them.

Parade can however take solace in the fact that their performance was good against a strong opposition like Rangers.

Rangers were disappointed, because they know they should be winning against the bottom side if they want to get back into the title race mix.

Lions survive in Kono

So, on Sunday defending champions, East End Lions defeated Diamond Stars 2-1 in a tightly contested match. For Lions, this win ease some pressure on them after numerous draws this season.

This season hasn’t been easy for Lions, but the game in Kono showed that they could still grind out results under difficult circumstances.
