The Anti-Corruption Commission’s Boss Francis Ben Kaifala has been reappointed by President Julius Maada Bio to serve another five-year as commissioners of the commission.
According to a press statement issued by the commission on the 29th of June 2023, the commissioner was reappointed pursuant to Section 4(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2008 as amended in 2019.
It explained that the renewal of the tenure of the commissioners was communicated through a re-appointment letter which is dated 19th June 2023, stating that it should take effect yesterday, following the expiration of his first term on the 28th June 2023.
“The First five year-tenure of Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala has seen Sierra Leone make remarkable gains in the fight against Corruption and recorded unprecedented progress in local and international corruption perception indexes and surveys including; the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Scorecard, the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, the Afro-Barometer Report, the Public Financial Management (PFM) Consortium National Corruption Perception Survey Report, etc.” a part reads.
The release stated that the commission recovered over Forty-Five (45) Billion (Old) Leone's cash, vehicles, houses, and other immovable.
ACC in their release explained that the country has received many local and international accolades, laurels, awards, and recognitions for efforts made in the fight against corruption.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to President Bio for what the release referred to as an unequivocal re-appointment.
“The Commissioner also wishes to thank, and continues to count on the Deputy Commissioner, the Board, Management, and staff of the Commission; as well as the People of Sierra Leone for their continued belief and support” a part reads.
