The Public Relations officer of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association Abu Baraca Sparky has said that the scheduled date for the Extra-Ordinary Congress which was 5 September 2015, may be moved to another date.
This he said was according to the sports ministry’s advice to them saying that it will be good for them to defer the congress till after the All African Games in Congo on 3 September 2015.
“The SLAA will have to be a part of the Games and if we decide to go ahead with the Congress both dates will clash, and as a body that is in charge of all sporting disciplines in the country we have take that into consideration and our president Abdul Karim Sesay has left for China on an IAAF meeting on his return we will know the final decision,” said Baraca.
However, internal discord has been raging amongst the stakeholders bothering on administrative issues, some aggrieved stakeholders invoked Article 16 and set a date for their own congress on August 21-21, on the basis that the Karim Sesay led executive has breached the SLAA constitution Article 15 by not holding a congress since they took office four years ago.
According to the aggrieved stakeholders the constitution they say mandates the executive to hold an Extra Ordinary Congress annually, but even the decision to hold theirs did not happen, reason being they are yet to receive recognition from the ministry.
