SLFA postpones Ordinary Congress

By Chernor Alimamy Kamara

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced the postponement of its Ordinary Congress which was initially scheduled to take place in the first week of July 2024.

A press release issued by the Association on the 24th June, 2024 stated that the decision to postpone the Congress comes in light of the prevailing court issue that has recently resulted in the closure of the SLFA premises, thereby barring the secretariat from operating.

“As a result, the office is unable to proceed with the necessary administrative preparations for the Congress,” the release states.

The SLFA reaffirms its commitment in the press release to comply with the court’s verdict and is dedicated to resolving the current situation promptly. It indicated that the Association’s President Thomas Daddy Brima and the Executive Committee are actively working to restore normalcy and ensure that all operations can resume at the earliest possible time.

It assured that once the issue is resolved, a new date for the Ordinary Congress will be communicated to the public, particularly to the membership of SLFA.

SLFA says it appreciates the understanding and patience of its members and the general public at what it cites a challenging time.

It could be recalled that an order from the High Court of Sierra Leone  on Friday 7th June, 2024 directed for the closure of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Secretariat in the matter between the Association and former Leone Stars Skipper Ibrahim Koroma (Obrea) and others.

SLFA banned Ibrahim Koroma, Samuel Barlay and Christian Caulker some years ago for match fixing which they denied of any wrong doing and they decided to seek redress in the High Court of Sierra Leone.
