SO THE COLOUR GREEN WAS PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH SLeCAD?
If that food-in-abundance minister is still in office by this time next week, we will conclude that there are many SACRED COWS around here. Here's a man paid by the state to do a job as serious as putting food on our table, taking crucial decisions about agricultural development and food security based on party colours. Welcome to Sierra Leone in the 21st century.
And we really believe the other guy who calls himself Public Relations Officer in that ministry should also follow his boss.
The story started with the PRO telling the country, that the GREEN COLOUR on the walls of the SLeCAD office had nothing to do with their decision to throw the organisation out of the ministry's building at Lumley. His boss then went on radio and announced that indeed the GREEN COLOUR was a matter of CONCERN in the overall decision. What is this? Has this minister been able to sleep well since making that statement on worldwide radio?
We can only imagine how many people have suffered at the hands of this minister just because they love GREEN as a colour or are in fact members of the opposition SLPP (that's anathema). GREEN is a part of our national colours so what does our minister want to do about that? Does he want to change that too? Or is he going to expel all of us from this country because we love our GREEN, WHITE and BLUE?
This minister has really made a mess of the job in that ministry but he is hiding that by playing up to his political gallery.
This is the same minister who is gearing up for a fight for the leadership of the Red Movement. There are interesting times ahead. The day the Red Movement votes that minister as presidential candidate, that's the day they should start writing their handing over notes. His candidacy will only make a bad situation worse. The people can't afford to have a man at State House who will wake up one morning and order that all things green, including the natural vegetation completely destroyed. Sorry!
RAW SEWERAGE FLOWING FREELY ON PADEMBA ROAD BUT WHO CARES?
Somebody must quickly tell the good people of Freetown, how long before anything is done about the raw sewerage flowing freely on the section of Pademba road just after the prison yard right down to the junction of Campbell Street. It's a real disgrace.
We've been watching the rubbish flowing with its pungent smell for a long time now hoping that somebody in authority will call the relevant agencies in to sort out the mess but it seems as if we are all playing along, pretending things are fine.
On Tuesday of this week, the thing was so bad that we were compelled to put the situation on record.
We have no idea where the mess is coming from. It's either from the jail yard which they euphemistically call CORRECTIONAL CENTER or that squatter camp inside the compound of the old PWD building - a squatter camp actively encouraged to gain ground and grow by that Washington DC karaoke minister who has very little idea what his real job description is. Our concern right now is that somebody should stop raw sewerage flowing so freely in any part of this city. It's bad.
The irony in all this is that to the left of the main entrance to the PWD compound stands a cesspit vehicle which has been abandoned there for as long as the sewerage has been flowing on that road. The SLRSA is busy towing vehicles all over the place but is that cesspit vehicle a sacred one? And there is another private vehicle in the same place. They've been standing there for a long time. Let's act quickly and clear that shame.
NOW WE UNDERSTAND WHY SALONE CIVIL SERVANTS HATE TO RETIRE
How much does the average civil servant earn as pension when they retire at 60? We heard on radio in the last few days that some of them receive as little as TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND LEONES. How many US Dollars is that please? Let's say FIVE US DOLLARS. Isn't this the most inhuman thing a nation can do to its citizens? TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND LEONES? Listening to that NASSIT man the other day, was almost like we were having a nightmare.
Just six hours away from here, the people of the UK are preparing for elections and they are having a good debate about general welfare issues in that country. Of particular concern to all parties has been the welfare of pensioners - those people who served their nation with diligence and are now expecting their nation to take care of them. Of course they are a developed nation but they are not letting their guard down. They keep pushing to force their politicians to act very well.
So what's the situation in good old Sierra Leone with regard to elections and the people's welfare?
1. Well, in this country, elections are about colours, tribes and your alma-mater. Forget about welfare issues
2. Even the pensioners who should be fighting for their welfare with their votes, are the people who easily jump on the streets to dance and dance and vote only to find themselves on the streets one week after the elections, begging for alms.
3. Politicians from all corners of this country deliberately keep the debate around colours and regions
4. In fact, pensioners are not even organised to be able to make a good case for themselves.
5. Sorry people, let's just forget about this welfare thing and dance to the RED and GREEN rhythm.
HOW MANY MORE KAILAHUN-TYPE EBOLA MISTAKES PLEASE?
While the chairman of Kailahun is sticking with his party and leading his people in the fight against fake Ebola figures, his counterpart in Pujehun, the great Kim IL Sung is busy fighting the same party and making wild political statements allegedly on behalf of all the people of the district. We are waiting for our copy of his reply to the query from GREEN MOVEMENT secretariat.
For now, we congratulate the chairman of Kailahun district for bringing the mighty NERC to their knees over that fake Ebola count in his district. The Kailahun chairman's case was well presented, his arguments well constructed. In the end, all the chips fell in place and NERC apologised.
We now ask NERC to formally apologise to the family of the deceased child for the disgrace and stigma they brought on them. And can NERC take further steps to assure the people of this country that all their figures over the past year or so are not tainted by the Kailahun experience? Anyway, that's what it means to be a leader. Congrats sir! Please ask NERC to compensate the affected family, some huge money. Next time they will be very careful with figures.
