Kan Kan Kan SHOOTS DOWN "SPARROWS" AT SLBC
And it came to pass that Kan Kan Kan finally met the staff of SLBC under the wise leadership of Hallowed Be Thy Name. You can guess already what the meeting was about. It was about dealing with another strike action over unpaid salaries. SLBC under Hallowed Be Thy Name, has experienced more strikes than the mining sector in South Africa as a whole.
The nation is just fed up with all these strikes by people who have no sympathy from the general public. They are making no difference to anybody with their programs. It's either they are doing covert advertising for commercial institutions disguised as news or they are singing the praises of De Pa.
We note once again that the few good guys who want to do a professional job are being suppressed and to secure their salaries, they have simply blended in. Great country!
So Kan Kan Kan told them that in terms of programs and general performance, it made no difference that the place is now called SLBC. Like the rest of us he was also completely fed up with this long chain of strikes that only end up embarrassing De Pa.
Let's say this to Kan Kan Kan: this is a problem of your own making. We are talking about De Pa's government. Sir, you commissioned studies into the failings of the SLBC.
1. The KPMG report dealt with the finances of the SLBC. It was clear that from the outset, SLBC was heading in the wrong direction.
2. The UN also commissioned a highly respected broadcaster, Elizabeth Smith of the UK. Her report also said a lot about the way SLBC is managed. We have copies of both documents. You have simply refused to move on the conclusions of both reports. Why did you pay for them?
You also set up an inquiry following a previous strike. Rod Mac-Johnson has since presented his report. What is happening to that too? The SLBC is the most researched institution in this country but it remains a badly-run place.
Only politicians and people who can't afford the many alternatives now available are watching your TV or listening to your radio station. Strike or no strike, Unu try dae!
AFTER MEETINGS AT STATE HOUSE: WHO'S NEXT PLEASE?
After the recent brighter than bright example of the troubled Ministry of Energy, we can imagine how terrifying an experience it is now for other ministers attending the State House meeting that has brought about two high profile dismissals with the damaging reason of incompetence attached to them. We have a fair idea what is awaiting the following ministries:
Ministry of Sports - Well, this should be a very straight forward and interesting meeting. As far as sports is concerned, we can hardly find anything to put our fingers on. The most popular sport in this country is football. Under the Agenda for Prosperity, football is dead.
We have been on a free fall on the FIFA ranking, all our teams have been disgracefully thrown out of CAF competitions, the National League is still on hold even with the Pope's preferred "BLACK SIERRA LEONEAN" in charge, the SLFA is experiencing secretariat-cleansing aimed at taking out those whose loyalty to the queen looks shaky; and above all thousands of football fans have left the stadium vowing to only return with the restoration of justice in FA matters.
And the pope keeps giving those bad-tempered interviews on radio over every small issue. The State House meeting should listen to some of those interviews. Hahaahahaha.
We have the most interesting ones in our computer and we will fully cooperate with the chairman of the State House meeting if we get a formal request to make the material available. The omnibus version should be enough.
Ministry of Lands - Apart from unwarranted attack on the people of Kenema by an overzealous Hurricane Musa Tarawallie, nothing else seem to be moving at the place. If anything land grabbing has dramatically increased since the Hurricane came to Youyi Building - worse today that it was when Building Inspector Kenneth Moore was killed by land grabbers in Freetown.
All across the Peninsular, hired thugs are on the rampage. Even a former president was dispossessed of his property. State lands acquired from government are not protected. People have documents given to them by the ministry but machete-wielding thugs own the land. Where's the authority of the state?
All this talk about lawlessness started with land acquisition and use in this country. While we don't blame the Hurricane for all the problems we believe that despite his big talk, people are being killed and stabbed and maimed in land disputes daily - look at the situation in Waterloo. Where's the ministry in all this?
No amount of paperwork produced by the Hurricane should satisfy the chairman of the State House meeting. Long Live common sense!
Ministry of Water Resources - There is simply no clean drinking water for millions of Sierra Leoneans despite all the assurances from our minister who has strong animal connections to "Go Police".
Even the little drops people scooped from his Lumley home has been cut-off. If Guma can supply THE BIG MAN, can't the same Guma supply the ordinary people too?
In fact the last few days have been particularly difficult - not a single drop of water for 90% of Freetown. Why hasn't he resigned?
Ministry of Tourism - The minister came to Freetown after being denied a second run for his job as head of the Koinadugu District Council with a reputation for being a hard task master. But he's been very much in the shadows.
The trouble is the minister promised to demolish all beach bars from Lumley Beach as a first step to making the place a big world tourist destination. He put the demolitions in motion but in the last few minutes before the action was due to start, the minister went cold and pulled back. Since then, we haven't heard anything from him. Where is our minister?
We are waiting for the minister's meeting at State House. We believe the answer to our question will come from that meeting.
We warn the people setting up the meeting that the National Anthem was usually played on radio in Kabala whenever this guy went on radio. Please get a copy ready. Start playing the minute the man lands at the entrance to State House. That doesn't mean he is behaving like a president. Hahahahahahaha - Long Live De Pa!
NPA, CINEMA HOUSES AND THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
For many people in Freetown, the National Power Authority is now in the same situation it was in the last days of Tejan Kabbah's Green Movement that had clearly lost its way in 2007. There's just no light. When they get it once in two weeks, the voltage is so low that most people would switch of. The sacking of Oluniyi has brought no immediate relief.
But we have noticed something and we think we should speak out now. Whenever there is an English Premier League match - a clash between two of the top four clubs or a crunch European Championship match, power would be cut very close to kick off. For a handful of places, power would be restored half an hour into the match by which time all video houses would be packed full. Are we missing something here?
Please keep watch on this as we wait for the meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City.
