BORIS JOHNSON FALLS ON HIS SWORD AT LAST
In the end it became impossible for Boris Johnson to hold on to power. MPs in his government were resigning every minute and the media were all over the story as his parliamentary colleagues continuously briefed the media and urged him to go from his own back bench. The world witnessed an extraordinary 48 hours in British politics. It was really strange that up to the last minute Johnson was sacking and appointing ministers in an attempt to convince many that he was still in charge. So here we are with the man who delivered that thumping majority for the Conservatives in 2019 now forced to resign, opening the way for a new Prime Minister in the UK.
All this is happening just over six hours away by air but there are a few lessons the good people of Sierra Leone and their politicians can take from the whole affair.
1. Things have gone really bad in the world, in terms of moral standards but the British people hold their leaders to extremely high standards. We know it’s a presidential system we have in this country but none of our parties would hold their leaders to account in this way let alone force them to resign.
2. People just became fed up with Johnson’s poor judgment and style. He passed laws and failed to subject himself to those laws with particular reference to his COVID 19 Lockdown regulations. Hello Sierra Leone.
3. This thing about quickly denying allegations, then admitting them in a limited way and then making full disclosure under pressure before apologizing had become unacceptable. Can somebody please help us with the way we deal with such matters here?
4. So let’s now see how the next few days and hours play out as regards whether Johnson would continue in office till October or he will again be forced to leave Downing Street all together in a few days. We call it the will of the people. “In politics, no one is remotely indispensable", says Boris Johnson. We agree.
OIL MARKETERS PILING ON THE MISERY WITH BAD BEHAVIOR
The Oil Marketers of Sierra Leone – the people who sell petroleum products throughout this country are a different breed of people. It’s not as if we don’t know how wicked they can be but the level to which their wickedness reached recently has gone beyond belief. We are used to them taking advantage of every little movement in the global price of oil to cause untold financial and physical suffering on the good people of Sierra Leone. They’ve been doing this for as long as we can remember but in the last few months since Russia attacked Ukraine, their wickedness has taken on frightening intensity.
Their new tactic is to blackmail the government into giving them FOREX to buy their products only for them to sell a few hundred liters, causing artificial scarcity, long queues, and a black market roadside fuel sale of fuel at an astronomical price. When ministers and industry regulators went round petrol stations on Monday this week they found huge quantities of all products but the stations were closed. The companies turned away people trying to get a few liters to move around. They want to once again force the hand of the government for another round of their drip, drip increase in the pump price.
Now, after long hours at a petrol station they will sell a few hundred liters of petrol in one place and another few hundred liters of diesel at another. This wickedness must stop. We are completely fed up and we think the government must do something radical. We don’t care if it fits into any accepted world economic model. We just want to turn up at a petrol station and buy what we want.
1. To be sure that the full range of products are bought with our hard earned FOREX, the government should pay directly to the suppliers and monitor the supply. We may be wrong but somehow we think when we provide money for a certain quantity of products, our Oil Marketers do something else.
2. Let’s station an agent of the regulatory agency in all fuel stations to monitor the sales during this period. We no longer trust these Oil Marketers.
3. Fuel dealers tell us their tanks are empty but just behind their wall is a thriving black market selling the products at twice the official pump price. How can anybody explain that?
RAPE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST ANOTHER EPL PLAYER
Another English Premier League player is in police net accused of rape. We don’t yet know the name but we have a very good idea who that might be given the location of his home in north London and some other references made to the guy getting ready to represent his country in the coming Football World Cup in Qatar.
From this little corner of West Africa, we are not bound by the laws in England that prevent the media from disclosing the names of suspects at this stage of the investigation. We don’t want to go around speculating but if we narrow things down to any player, we will name them. All we can say for now is that we are not sure who that player is.
While on this can the police in that great country tell us why GREENWOOD of Manchester United was so easily named by the media after the police pretty much gave all the indications while this other guy is being protected in this way?
This is not to say we doubt the veracity of the woman’s complaint but it’s beginning to look like a pattern now that Premier League players are being arrested for rape with amazing rapidity. How should these guys we watch every weekend keep themselves away from such a fate?
1. They should go get a wife and stop chasing SLAY QUEENS.
2. All transfer fees and weekly salary payments should be undisclosed. Tell the media to shut up.
3. Next time they see strange women in their hotel lobby or near their hotel resort they shouldn't even greet them. Just go about your normal business.
4. Choose your male friends wisely because you don’t know which one of them is setting you up just to lay fingers on your money.
5. Get a good lawyer in case you couldn’t care less about what you’ve just read. Lawyers like these kinds of clients.
DISGRACE IN SALONE FOOTBALL SLFA OPENS INVESTIGATION
So far we think the SLFA has been extremely slow in dealing with that disgrace of a so-called SUPER 10 League in the east of this land that we love. We welcome the initial statements made by Queen Johansen’s hostage at the SLFA but we have to move fast to convince the rest of the world that we are very serious minded people and we hate cheating and manipulation in the beautiful game.
We are hearing that SLFA’s Ethics Committee has been asked to investigate the case. Well, we have very little respect for that Ethics Committee because even as we write there are people whose reputations were damaged many years ago under Queen Johansen because they were accused of match-fixing. The Queen herself told a parliamentary committee she made those allegations because she was playing politics. Why parliament failed to act against her is a question those in the big house at that time should answer. This Ethics Committee has cleared some but the others are still made to wait. This is the same Ethics Committee now being asked to investigate a case that is clear as daylight. We are not impressed.
What is really there to investigate?
1. We have the disgrace of a score line for both matches. Those scores have now dragged this country into the Guinness Book of records for something the rest of us didn’t bargain for.
2. We know the people organizing the so-called SUPER 10 in the east. Are waiting for them to appear before the Ethics Committee to attempt to shift blame to other people? They are in charge. Let's deal with them NOW.
3. Now the match officials: Their reports should be with the SLFA at this time. They stood there and supervised the nonsense. We understand that one of them walked off the field in protest. Let the others face the music.
4. We recommend that all of them be banned from football for life. As for the players, we should be a little careful not to wreck the career of those young boys. Let’s pick out those that played key roles and get them out of football for life.
5. By the way please make sure you pay the allowances of the Ethics Board otherwise they will suspend the General Secretary in the middle of this job and throw the whole thing into chaos.
