FUEL PRICE DROPS SLIGHTLY BUT FOR HOW LONG?
There’s been a little respite around the country over the last several hours as the price of petroleum products fell slightly. It would appear as if concrete efforts are now being made in powerful countries to reduce the price and keep it down to prevent civil unrest around the world as people demonstrate against the steep rise in the cost of living. We are still not clear about two things: will this price reduction continue over the coming days and weeks? Will those people who have enriched themselves in the last several months quickly adjust themselves to the new reality? We ask because unless the answer to both questions is a big YES, there will be no need to celebrate the PRA announcement.
We urge the government not to waste even a second to respond to every downward movement in the global pricing index because they did the same when things were moving upwards against the good people of the world. Greedy Oil Marketers should be ready to take a huge cut in their profits.
Inevitably in this land, the PRA announcement has been thrown into partisan politics. Tolongbo had a huge feast blasting the government when the price of fuel flew through the roof. Maybe that’s what opposition parties do. They didn’t want to hear anything about the price being influenced by GLOBAL issues. They wanted the government to do everything under the sun to keep our price at the pump right down. Government on the other hand was busy shouting GLOBAL all over the place. Teams were dispatched across the country to go shouting GLOBAL, GLOBAL and GLOBAL!
Now, the price is slightly down and surrogates are on social media singing thy praise O Principal. Tolongbo people are also now saying the price fell because GLOBAL prices have also fallen. Now they suddenly realize there is something GLOBAL about the price of petroleum products.
We really want sincere politicians on all sides of our governance system. Some guys are always self-serving.
IN DEFENCE OF ALL COOKERY SELLERS OF SIERRA LEONE
A Tolongbo MP launched an unprovoked attack against our best friends – the COOKERY SELLERS of Sierra Leone. Our MP was apparently responding to an undertone tacking her grasp of the issues she was dealing with in a debate on the much hyped Public Elections Bill. She went off script to speak about her familiarity with the English Language and the fact that she could hold her own in terms of proficiency in the QUEEN’S LANGUAGE. She was consistently heckled by her colleagues from the government benches but she fought hard to be heard.
We don’t want to question her claims at this time because our interest is to defend our friends who were so unjustly held up to ridicule in the House of Parliament with TV cameras sending pictures to the world. Why did she do it?
1. It could well be that she absolutely believes all COOKERY SELLERS are idiots who should be in the background at all times. Otherwise, why did she so quickly pick on them?
2. Is she telling us that there are no COOKERY SELLERS or their relatives or customers among the thousands who voted in her constituency? How can she be so condescending to a group of people who mean so much to hundreds of thousands of Sierra Leoneans? Has she forgotten that there was DIGNITY IN LABOR?
3. We are prepared to accept that she meant no harm and she actually slipped and fell on the COOKERY SELLERS gaffe by mistake. All we require now is for her to urgently apologize to our friends from the same position inside parliament.
4. Tolongbo MPs have messed up badly in the last few weeks since this ELECTION BILL went before the house. The other guy viciously attacked diasporans out in his constituency only to apologize when fire was returned. These are not good times for politicians to be apologizing for blunders that are easily avoidable. This guy's seat is very likely changing hands.
NO MORE SYMPATHY FOR MUSA TOMBO
In the name of discipline and respect we are going to the CHAN tournament without our nation’s highest goal scorer and we have NO REGRETS about that. Musa Tombo pushed his luck with us too far and now we the good people of Sierra Leone have decided to tell him that no citizen is above the country.
Musa Tombo has thoroughly embarrassed many Sierra Leoneans who always thought he was a victim of heavy-handed coaches and that there was an undercover plot to destroy his career. In this same column we have had cause to hit John Keister hard because we thought he was out to destroy Tombo. Now we know the guy was the architect of his own destruction.
Tombo’s sins are many and we have no interest in going all over them here but all we want to let the world know is that we are part of those who believe he should NEVER return to the national team. We cannot keep giving chance after chance to the same man only for him to do crazy things. He totally disrespects football authorities, including the man who changed his life at Bo Rangers. We doubt he still has a place in that team. It’s all good for Babadi Kamara to be going out of his way to rescue Tombo but at which point will that affect the morale of the other players who are behaving like normal human beings by working hard and respecting the authorities?
A national player who insists on ditching the national team to play in nondescript community leagues should be allowed to go his way while the rest of us play according to the rules. Good Bye Tombo!
MAYOR FAILS IN THE AREA OF SANITATION
We took this picture a few days ago along the Hillside bypass road in FREETOWN. This is the Mayor’s TRANSFORMED FREETOWN. By the way this is just one pile of rubbish along the stretch from Dwarzack Junction to the little road linking Macauley Street. Our Mayor has completely lost control of sanitation while she concentrates on taking nice pictures for Facebook and blaming the world for her failures.
We are ready to be named as one of her enemies because of the job we are doing on this directionless council that the ACC is playing around with. Sorry ma'am, this is our job.
