DONALD TRUMP TO APPEAR IN COURT AGAIN
We spend hours and hours every evening watching CNN, MSNBC and other TV channels we can find, watching Donald Trump, former US president face the legal music in courts across that vast country. We are learning a lot from what we see and hear on some of the most powerful TV stations around the world. Donald Trump is putting a brave face to things but he is very worried about his political career and crucially, about the real possibility of him spending time in jail.
We enjoy US politics – the quality of the debates, the fact that politicians are always willing to put country before party but we also know that there is a dark side that is not different from what we experience in countries in other parts of the world.
Donald Trump is the leading contender for the Democratic Party ticket in the 2024 elections. Despite all his legal troubles his party members are sticking with him and unless he is stopped by an act of God, he looks almost sure to be challenging Joe Biden. Well we cannot say for sure that Biden will lead his own party. Things are still unfolding. So why are we interested in bringing the Trump issue here?
1. Should we take Trump seriously when he says the US Department of Justice has been weaponized against him? We don’t want to, but down here we get easily accused of politically motivated trials to deny opponents an opportunity to fight for power. Can we now say the same for the most powerful country in the world?
2. Maybe we should call for a political DIALOGUE to end all trials in the belief that Democrats, Republicans and independents would all live together happily ever after in the new USA. It sounds Utopian but we’ve been asked to try and get to the PROMISE LAND.
3. Like Sierra Leone, Trump has been disputing the election that brought Biden to power all the time. Some of his people who did that January 6 thing are in jail now and the country is gearing up for another election in the same toxic atmosphere. The difference is the Republicans are helping to run the government. Here Orsamu says they should all stay away until he is crowned the Lord of all.
MAN UNITED BLACKMAILED INTO SACKING GREENWOOD
Manchester United has sacked Mason Greenwood. His contract was due to expire in about two years but he has now been told to continue playing football away from Old Trafford. We really don’t want to go into the gory details of the circumstances that led to that great star being thrown out of the club but it should suffice to say he was arrested and charged with domestic violence, attempted rape and things like that after a video of a not-so-friendly encounter that took place between him and his wife. Let’s leave it like that.
The police were unable to proceed with prosecution because they looked certain to lose given the evidence they were able to put together. So we thought Greenwood would easily slot back into his team and play his usual good football. Manchester United quickly announced that they would carry out their own investigation and they made an extremely bad job of it.
Let’s just consider the following: United are the worst when it comes to signing and selling players. They spend weeks tracking one player only for that player to end up with another team; nearly a year ago, the owners of Manchester United put the team up for sale and two strong bids came in but months later we are in the same place with no decision made. Now we hear that the Glazers are staying after all. Why create so much uncertainty around the club and their numerous fans? Next is the Greenwood affair. Months after the police closed their case the team has been investigating. They wanted the man to stay but they were not strong enough to say that.
They heard from their people when they deliberately leaked information into social media to gauge public reaction. A few people demonstrating here, one celebrity shouting there and Greenwood is gone - Absolute BLACKMAIL?
Did they really have to spend all this time only to reach this decision? Anyway they have had a very shaky start to the season and they have only a week left to sign good players otherwise they will fight relegation this season.
BANKS IN SALONE MUST PAY OUT CORRECT MONEY ALWAYS
We saw a lengthy statement from Rokel Commercial Bank the other day taking issue with a video on social media accusing them of not paying out correct money to their customers. They even threatened legal action against the people in the video. We understand that action because in the kind of business they do, it’s always good for customers to believe they are not being cheated. We don’t know how far that statement went to calm some customer nerves.
We don’t have any official accounts at RCB but we have experienced what customers are complaining about in the TWO banks we do business with and it’s getting serious. We will not name those banks for now because we want to see how things go after the issue has once again been forced into the agenda of our national conversation.
The banks have always told people to count all withdrawals in front of the Teller before leaving the bank. That’s easier said than done. It’s an easy way to push the blame back to the customer and we understand why they are doing that. We are living in a country where people like taking large amounts of bank notes around like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Imagine somebody withdrawing ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND New Leones and counting all of that with a long queue of other customers behind. Is that what our banks want to put us through?
We are not sure if there is a deliberate conspiracy in these banks to steal from their customers but they have to find a better answer to complaints from the public about people losing cash even those wrapped up in plastic from their institutions. These are issues they should quietly investigate after fighting the public relations battle. Our observation continues.
