PRAYING FOR WESTERN SANCTIONS ON SIERRA LEONE

We have a group of Sierra Leoneans on social media these days constantly calling for the Western world to impose broad, crippling multilateral sanctions on Sierra Leone.  It’s clear they are doing this for political reasons - their party lost the last elections so they want the country’s main Western allies to apply crippling sanctions and they can use the ensuing meltdown to emerge as the new leaders of Sierra Leone. Their calculation is simple. They are organizing demonstrations in Western capitals calling for just that. They are also meeting a few politicians out there that are willing to listen to them as they spread the message that Sierra Leone represents HELL on earth and they must do something about it.

So far no Western power has done what these Sierra Leoneans are praying for and somehow our brothers and sisters are becoming even more desperate. They are busy issuing death threats against individuals and groups in Sierra Leone. Instead of using the facilities provided by social media for positive reasons, these Sierra Leoneans are trying extremely hard to bring war to this country. Back home there is very little appetite for the kind of politics these people mainly based abroad are fighting to introduce.

Let’s just add our voice to that of many other Sierra Leoneans that have told them to slow down for the following reasons:

1. We don’t even understand why they would call for sanctions but they should know that sanctions would hurt the ordinary people more than those they hate so badly. This is a good example of using ordinary Sierra Leoneans as collateral damage on their way to that imaginary State House.

2. The West can make up their mind about how to relate with Sierra Leone going forward. They don’t depend on information from those gathering on the streets of London and Washington. They have a presence in Sierra Leone.

3. Even the West has strategic interests in Sierra Leone, and that may include helping to maintain stability. In fact that is not the only interest they have here. Their business is to protect those interests and not to dance to the music of people who refuse to search for the real reason why they lost the June 2023 elections.

4. In all of this we have to call out META, the owners of Facebook and Whatsapp. They have allowed their platforms to be used for everything wicked and criminal in Sierra Leone. They have made little or no effort to regulate as they do in other countries. We now ask the government of Sierra Leone to take META to court for the loss of life and destruction caused in this country with their platforms as the main vehicles by which hate speech is driven. The world must not wait for another Rwanda to take place here before rushing to Arusha.

THE RETURN OF KUNG FU BOY TO THE CABINET

Today we want to continue our discussion on the miraculous return of Kung Fu boy to the cabinet especially when some really influential guys in the New Direction movement have been sacked. By the middle of August, those big political beasts that are losing their jobs now would have left this country. They are going abroad to console themselves but primarily because they don’t want to appear to be creating a separate political base because at that point Principal would be compelled to act against them. So it’s a good idea to stay away for now. We totally agree with them.

Meanwhile Kung Fu is getting ready to re-appear in that cabinet room he is so familiar with. The guy started his political life with SLPP, and then crossed to PMDC, then APC. Now he is back at SLPP. Even in SLPP he carved a place for himself in a small but powerful group that has real powers. Well done sir.

Apart from joining that small but powerful group in SLPP, what other reasons propelled this guy to the cabinet for the THIRD time?

1. He is certainly the most intelligent and loyal member of the party. Anybody can prove us wrong by simply asking members of that group and checking his record in the cabinet secretariat going back to the days of King Messi.

2. This is the only guy who starts his work day with loud morning prayers which all senior staff in particular must attend. He is a good Christian and couldn’t care less if all his senior workers were Muslim.

3. Kung Fu knows that left with the wider SLPP, he stands no chance of being accredited even for a delegates’ conference so he tracked quickly towards a group that controls power within the Green Movement. He is an intelligent guy.

4. Principal like a guy like this who can sacrifice a lot of things to get power. He can dance, change the name of streets and communities, use his religious powers to discover witches and wizards and promptly neutralize them. Long Live KUNG FU boy!

SUSPENSION OF REFEREES: DAMAGE CONTROL OR …

SLFA has now suspended the referee and his assistants who took charge of the match between relegation-threatened Kamboi Eagles and Freetown City played in Kenema. We will not provide any details but their performance was a disgrace. They did everything to help Kamboi Eagles including denying a clean goal against them and extending the extra time to about TWENTY MINUTES. Kamboi Eagles also failed to take all the opportunities given to them. That’s how bad it was.

The SLFA has only now acted because of a lot of other shenanigans taking place as we reach the business end of the league. Dark forces are now at work trying to save certain clubs from relegation. They are hoping to kill the noise with this suspension but they have failed.

We believe that many of our referees and football administrators and by extension our players would easily fail the scrutiny of a lighted candle. The administrators are busy bribing and manipulating players and match officials to secure the results they want and the SLFA has no way of dealing with that. Complaints about sub-standard or bad refereeing have always been ignored or defended.

Suspending these officials is an elaborate attempt at stonewalling any further queries about the credibility of the whole league. We love football but the way things are going now paints a dark picture. We will wake up one morning to find our league suspended by CAF and FIFA for unbridled match manipulation.
