WOMAN WITH SCISSORS IN HER ABDOMEN STILL SUFFERING
Months after we broke this story, the young woman living with a pair of scissors in her abdomen has still not found help. In fact, for a while now she has been taken out of the limelight because the organization working on her case reportedly didn’t like the kind of prominence we were given this very important issue. We find that really strange because we are convinced that the more we make it an agenda item for national consumption the more the authorities will be compelled to act. Taking her to some small corner and blocking her access to the media is to prolong her pain and possibly hasten her death in silence.
We have consistently called the attention of Pa Demby to the seriousness of that woman’s situation and we have warned him of the consequences of not doing anything quick, substantial and purposeful until that woman dies. At that point this country will not accept any explanation of what happened or who failed to act. We will join others to call for an investigation and criminal prosecutions against those we know even today as being the cause of that poor woman’s suffering.
We have also called on the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association SLMDA to act fast and save that woman’s life and bring their colleague to book for that blunder. They know what to do but they are refusing to act against one of their own. This was the same association that recently shut down the entire healthcare delivery system because somebody allegedly tried to forcefully take a mobile phone from the hand of one of their colleagues who abandoned her work in the wards to become a Paparazzo. Are they telling us the woman’s life is not worth saving? The SLMDA should tell us something.
BOOMING INSECTICIDE TRADE: ATTENTION STANDARDS BUREAU
We don’t have any scientific reason to be so worried but as ordinary citizens we think something is not looking good with all kinds of insecticides sold on our streets these days. The trade is booming and with the use of mobile speakers and megaphones the sound of young people shouting out the name of these products is daily piercing our ears in the city center and even in quiet residential communities.
For good measure the names of insecticides are scary. There is one called AK 47 that the dealers claim eliminates mosquitoes and bedbugs easily. Really?
We suspect that a lot of these materials are smuggled into the country putting them beyond the reach of the Standards Bureau but we want the bureau to carry out the necessary tests to be sure that this AK 47 that they say kills bedbugs and mosquitoes is not also killing human beings slowly.
We are fighting COVID-19 so we don’t want greedy traders to kill our people with insecticides that we believe are fake.
THE INSPECTOR GENERAL IS NOW 61 YEARS OLD: SO WHAT?
There’s been a kind of media countdown to the new age of our dear Inspector General of Police Ambrose Sovula. The IG is now SIXTY ONE according to some newspapers. Those same newspapers are calling for his immediate retirement. Another paper went as far as printing the photos of his like successors on the front page. This actually reminds us of the struggle for the leadership of NASSIT in the days of King Messi. The Job eventually went to the late Joseph Mans but the fight was messy on the pages of our newspapers. The IG Sovula retirement question is threatening to go down that same road.
1. Somehow we believe that a few of those guys waiting to succeed him are the ones behind the media reports. They are consistently briefing against their boss to force the hand of the Police Council to say goodbye to Sovula.
2. There are others who just don’t like his style of running the Force for Good. In many ways he is different from his predecessor Richard Moigbe. It’s not fair to expect Sovula to operate like his former boss.
3. Frankly, some people just want Sovula to move on and start collecting his monthly NASSIT payments. They want the law to apply to him like any other public officer. We have no idea where this will end but we will not be surprised if IG Sovula’s term is extended.
OH ARSENAL YOUR NEXT MATCH IS AGAINST MAN CITY
If Arsenal do not beat Manchester City or put in a respectable enough performance against the title holders, manager Arteta and his staff will have serious questions to answer. It’s not as if they are not being challenged already but to go NINE points off the pace in the first three weeks of the tournament is a huge sign of worry by their own high standards.
We don’t know what their iconic former manager Arsene Wenger is making of all this. Arsenal appears to be going down a hill and while their fans may forgive a loss against Chelsea and Man City, they will never forgive that opening day defeat to newcomers BRENTFORD. It was a disgrace.
We are not experts in this business but we believe Arsenal must invest in a clever way to raise their game. What was really clever about giving Willian a THREE YEAR contract after having been denied that by Chelsea, the club he served so well in his prime? This same player LIKED a photo of Chelsea players celebrating their recent victory over Arsenal. What was so special about David Luiz? Paying more than 70 million pounds for Pepe was a dumb idea. Actually, employing Arteta to run Arsenal was the beginning of the downfall of the club. We are waiting to be surprised when next we check Arsenal out in December.
