WAFA bans community league

By Kemoh Sesay

The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has banned the Eastern Best Soccer Promoters (EBSP) inter-community league which resulted in the deaths of two people last Saturday.

Speaking to Politico, the WAFA Scribe, Kasho Holland-Cole said the EBSP did not inform them about the start of their league, which he said constituted disrespect for WAFA.

“We we are going to put a stop to any league or football association that runs a competition without the notice of WAFA" Holland-Cole said, adding that the violent nature of the league meant that it must be discontinued as a mark of respect for the deceased. He also expressed our condolence to the bereaved family’ he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the EBSP, Aruna Newland told Politico that they had put their league on hold until further notice. When asked whether they had notified WAFA about their competition, Newland said that they were under the Fourah Bay Amateur Football Association (FAFA) and it was the responsibility of FAFA to have communicated to WAFA about their competition.

The Deputy Minister of Sports, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh is expected to visit the Fourah Bay community to find a peaceful solution to the problem.
