Compaore did not blaze the trail

You guessed who. He did not rule. He reigned for 27 turbulent years. When you come to think of it, it's all part of man's nature carried to the extreme. To a certain extent almost all homo sapiens are eager for what I would refer to as the three Ps namely, Power Prestige and Pleasure. But against the backdrop of Compaore's death let us focus on the vagaries of power for now.

TAM BARYOH FREED: SALONE MEDIA PLEASE DON'T CELEBRATE

Ok let's celebrate for a few minutes because we have one of our own back from the hell called Pademba Road Correctional Centre. How we wish that were so – that the central prison was truly a correctional centre! The authorities admit that the place was meant for 300 people but that they now have close to 2,000 people banged up there. The same authorities pride themselves in having a good human rights record. How strange! We are always busy locking people up yet we claim to have an enviable human rights record.

Age has the advantage of wisdom and the disadvantage of tiredness. Both the consideration of the wisdom that age brings and the tiredness that it can lead to are often in the minds of Lawmakers when drafting requirement for positions. Thomas Paine (1737-1809) wrote thus:

“When in countries that are called civilized, we see age going to the workhouse and youth to the gallows, something must be wrong in the system of government”.
