POEM: PEACE

A delicate and precious baby

Universally coveted by humanity.

When appropriately nurtured and cared for

Will preserve progress in life,

And positively impact all walks of life.

Yet only a single act of indiscretion,

Stubbornness, unforgiveness or indifference,

Could shatter its delicate frame

And waste the precious coveted fragrance

In the desert of regret and missed opportunities.

So give peace a chance around you.

Poem: BE PROUD WITHOUT PRIDE

Youth of our homeland,
You are indeed our nation's future.
Do not scorn the staircase of the mentee,
The Savings Account of potential;
Be proud, but without the sin of pride.

Pride, the predecessor of the prostrate,
Resists guidance and nurturing,
Challenges authority, ridicules sound counsel,
Pursues and pollutes promise;
That gem embedded in every human,
Which in you, resides in abundance.

South Africa: The Legacy of the Last President of Apartheid

By Abdul Tejan-Cole

Frederik Willem (FW) de Klerk, the last apartheid President of South Africa, passed away on 11 November 2021 in Cape Town. He was 85. Few people in the world provoke more disparate views in life and death than the late FW. President Cyril Ramaphosa praised him for playing a "key role in ushering in democracy" and called him "a committed South African who embraced the democratic constitutional dispensation."
