Sport Commentary: When ends the madness bedevilling Sierra Leone Football go away?

By Alpha Abu

For over seven years now football administration in Sierra Leone has been dogged by intrigue and unending rift amongst people who were supposed to ensure that sanity reigns in the game. People who much was expected of  whether by omission or commission stifled the progress of the game by inventing counter-productive measures or resorting to sometimes crude destructive tactics to bury the ambitions of perceived opponents just to maintain the status quo.

How nostalgic one can get!

By Dr Ishmail Pamsm-Conteh

Over this past  weekend, I had an interesting telephone conversation with my dear friend, Dr. Joe Ansu Tucker (aka Posh). We started with small talk  about  the UK weather and  how Covid-19 has turned the whole world upside down.

Ansu and I have come a long way, from our days  at  Bo School,  then Fourah  Bay College and recently at the University of Leeds, where we both studied for our PhD degrees. He studied economics and I studied law.

2021: Through the lens of Sierra Leone's budget speech

By Franklin Sisabu Bendu

In 2018 and 2019 the hallmarks of our macroeconomic performance were an increase in revenue, rationalization of expenditure, decline in budget, sustainable debt profile, and increase in donor funds. All the macroeconomic projections in 2020 were to build on the improvements in 2018 and 2019.

2021: Rethinking Democracy in Africa

By Abdul Tejan-Cole

2020! What a year it has been! For most on the continent, it was another annus horribilis. Although the same may be true for all other continents due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the year was particularly challenging in Africa because of significant governance challenges. Many countries on the continent took not just one but several steps backwards in terms of democratic governance. Instead of consolidating and building on the progress made in recent years, things took a reverse trajectory.

2021: The need for a stable and consistent supply of electricity in Sierra Leone

By Mabinty M. Kamara

The symbiosis between electricity supply and modern society is like the human body and the blood vessels. It is a relationship in which one could hardly survive without the other. However, in Sierra Leone either this relationship has over the years not been recognized by the relevant authorities or it is being perceived as a right for the privileged few who can afford it. But my prayers are that by 2021, they will wake up to the realization of this relationship and make things better for the good of Sierra Leone.
